Rebounding, defense and a little instant offense from Jarell Flora allowed Seattle U to pick up its first road win of the season in a 58-53 decision over Cal State Northridge on Thursday night at the Matadome.

Flora scored a game-high 23 points for the Redhawks, including six in a row during a minute-and-a-half stretch late in the second half that turned a Matadors' cushion into a one-point margin with about 4:30 remaining.

Shore Adenekan gave the Redhawks (5-3) the lead one minute later with an offensive rebound and putback, and Isiah Umipig helped seal the victory with a three-pointer and two free throws down the stretch. Seattle U also grabbed several key offensive rebounds and forced the Matadors (5-5) into crucial turnovers in the game's final minutes.

The first half was back and forth, with both teams trading the lead but neither able to pull away. The Matadors led by two at halftime, but the Redhawks tied it on Clarence Trent's jumper early in the second half. That led to more back-and-forth until Flora's offensive burst.

Flora, a junior guard, shot 8-for-12 from the field and 5-for-7 from three-point range for the Redhawks. It was his third game this season scoring 20-plus points. Umipig added 12 points and five assists, while Trent chipped in 11 points. Jack Crook led SU with seven rebounds.

Cal State Northridge guard Stephan Hicks led the Matadors with 13 points, while center Tre Hale-Edmerson had 10 points, nine rebounds and three blocks.

Seattle U next plays at Cal State Fullerton on Saturday. The Redhawks beat the Titans at KeyArena on Nov. 13 thanks to a furious late comeback and a 25-point performance from Flora in which he hit five threes.
